In Fedoskino village for more than two hundred years lacquered miniature is produced. This art is lost in Europe. Fedoskino artists make fantastic caskets and sell in their studios.
The old town of Dmitrov was founded in 1154. The ancient ground fortress and cathedral (XVII century) with precious icons are safe. Good museum. Torjoke (XIII century) always was the place of frontier wars and trade. Here the north of Russia settled the deeds with Volga and Moscow people. On the road from Torjoke to Tver in Mednoye Poles built a memorial to polish captives of 1939, when Soviet Union invaded in Poland. That was the beginning of the Second World War. More then 6000 poles were killed in Tver in spring 1940 by Bolsheviks. Mednoye is the polish military cemetery. Close to poles lie more than 50,000 Russian victims of the totalitarian system.
Mikulino was the frontier fortress(XIV century) on the road from Tver to Volokolamsk. In the middle of the big ground fortress stands 40 meters hight church(XIV century).
Yaropolets presents aristocratic palaces of the XVIII century and the mausoleum of the Ukrainian patriot Peter Doroshenko(XVII century). This place is the symbol of Ukrainian independence of Russia.
Volokolamsk is older than Moscow. It stands on the northern branch of the Great Silk Rout - water way from Scandinavia to Caspian sea. Ground fortress of those times is in the center of the town. It protected very important portage of that rout.
